The Biblical School
2012 Servant of the Word Weekend a Great Success!
The Denver Catholic Biblical School was pleased to honor Fr. Robert Barron as the 2012 Servant of the Word award recipient. Every year the Biblical School selects someone who has unselfishly advanced the knowledge and love of God's Word among the faithful and we couldn't think of someone better to highlight than Fr. Barron, the founder of the Word on Fire Ministry and the popular Catholicism series.
Everyone who attended the Friday night auction and banquet dinner at Pinehurst Country Club enjoyed bidding on the wonderful silent auction items. They were treated to an entertaining live auction presentation led by Fr. John Paul Leyba where an autographed Tim Tebow jersey and football were popular items. The most popular item was the Sacred Heart of Jesus image painted during dinner by the local performance artist Devin Montagne. Fr. Barron spoke to a packed room of 360 guests at the Pinehurst Country Club about the origin and development of his 10 part Catholicism series.
On Saturday, the Servant of the Word workshop was held at Mullen High School. Fr. Barron started the day by reflecting on the 5 Dramatic Acts of Salvation History. He then spent 45 minutes answering questions on various topics offered by the more than 400 attendees (we hope to make available the Q and A session on this website soon so stayed tuned!). Dr. Jonathan Reyes of Catholic Charities shared his thoughts on the importance of a "Catholic Mind" for the mission of evangelization to which we are all called by Baptism. Fr. John Riley closed the day with a presentation on the Spiritual Life and the Screen Arts challenging the audience to be discerning about what they watch to make sure it brings them closer to Christ.
Fr. Robert Barron is a renowned author, speaker and theologian. His work can be found at http://www.wordonfire.org/ which has many resources along with YouTube videos where Fr. Barron speaks on many topics pertinent to today's world.
Thank you to everyone-volunteers and attendees-who made this past weekend such a great success.
